More moving type!

well, a bit more on the moving type here. I have decided on a quote to use. It is a quote by a photographer called Arnold Newman. The quote reads:
Visual ideas combined with technology combined with personal interpretation equals photography. Each must hold it's own; if it doesn't, the thing collapses.
To do the quote justice, i have been thinking of numerous techniques and backing tracks. The technique i have decided on is to make little tiles and write the letters on each tile. moving them small distances at a time, taking still photos as i go. Then putting the photos together in a video to make it all flow and give a nice effect. I have yet to decide a backing track, but it will be from one of the following:
Ennio morricone or metallica - the ecstasy of gold
Rob dougan - clubbed to death
carl orff - o fortuna

Moving type research!

well, as my last video just didnt have enough effort put in... ive been given the chance to redo it. so here we have some research ive done into different ways and methods to actually use moving type.

clip 1:

this clip is grungey and very well done. the jumping and movement of the type is very good as it is all done by using still photos of plastic sheets with the letters printed on.
this method is a very good idea and is very similar to the idea i have myself.

clip 2:

this clip uses kinetic type movement. more than likely done in flash, it is a very well done piece. i had been thinking of doing a kinetic type video myself. but there are other kinds i am leaning more towards.

clip 3:

this is a very cool clip, but i think a bit out of my league for now. its using after effects and motion tracking. making the text seem to peel off the signs and float off.

clip 4:

this one flows well and the text appears 3 dimensional. this was done with 3Ds max, a method called particle flow. sadly im not experineced enough for this, but it is a really nice method.

Moving type!

well, its a bit last minute to be posting this, but here goes!
the subject i chose for my moving type, is a quote from billy connolly.
its a well known quote when he has a little rant about christian rock!
i found it quite funny and would be easily used for the moving type...

for my little experience in flash, and my first time making a video in flash, i dont think its the worst ive ever done!

but sure let me know what you think yourself!

Wearing Type

Doing research into wearing type, i had decided the piece i would create is a tattoo sleve!
i didnt want to add any patterns or designs to it as the temptation to go too far would be there.
So simplistic and basic it is...

doing a little browse on the interwebs about how we would go about wearing typography, came across this link: http://www.etsy.com/shop/plastique
its a place that sells necklaces and other accessories that are made of type. I found it really interesting and may help inspire my own peice!

Research

Browsing the internet for research into typography and the uses for it, I stumbled accross a few really nice images using typography as the main part.
First off we have an image of an arm and hand, with each body part made up of its name, such as "arm" "wrist" and so on.
Next is a map of the world, but for each country it is filled with its name. I found this a very clever use of text.
Last but not least, a silouette of jimmy Hendrix, made out of text. It is a very good way of getting the message accross.

Grids

Well heres some work i done to show the grid layouts within signs. Altho we dont actually see the grid with the naked eye, the way things line up on a shop front or window make it appealing. Heres my Co-Operative travel image done in grid form. I will have other grids posted this week.

Typography walkabout!

Well, I got a just shy of 40 photos on the walkabout, just a pity the camera on the blackberrys not the greatest, but heres 4 of my favourites from the day...
The Co-operative travel sign. Although its missing a few letters from its original state, you can still see what it says from the backing of the letters. Budget travel at its best I wonder?
Next on the list is the grafitti. It appealed to me as there was almost a layout to the designs, with each artists tag holding its own beside the others. the different styles including free hand and stencil are very interesting.
The Castle street Guinness sign was quite a nice shot also as it has the old style street sign, above a hand painted Guinness sign. If it could be any more traditional it would be on a thatch cottage! But there really is nothing like a Guinness.
Last, but not least. The no entry sign was quite large but at this angle i could get the sign in as well as add a nice effect from the angle.

Well, thanks for looking folks. Heres a photo of the main gates at Oktoberfest in Munich back last year. I really like the use of the sign as it hangs below the arch. The blue is the main colour scheme for the decorations of the festival and the tents. It is a simple design, keeping with the traditional style of the festival.
